The Local Government area of Tumbarumba Shire Council was originally proclamed on 6 March 1906. On 12 May 2016, in forced amalgamations by the NSW State Government, Tumbarumba Shire Council and Tumut Shire Council were merged to become Snowy Valleys Council.
